"This [tiering] is a nice-to-have feature, but does not yet live up to the promise of automated tiered storage, as pioneered by Compellent and offered in various forms by many other storage companies.

Andy Hardy of Compellent explains the virtues of tiered storage in addressing the challenge of the rapidly increasing amounts of data generated by new imaging technology and communications in the healthcare sector.

Andy Hardy, managing director of international sales at Compellent, says 2009 was its best year to date – it grew revenue for its 16th consecutive quarter, signed many new customers and continued to expand its channel.

When Slumberland encountered problems with their existing EMC Clarion and HP SAN components, they opted to replace them with a Compellent SAN. "What we've done is migrate the vast amount of our storage from proprietary dedicated SANs and DAS to two Compellent SANs," says Seth Mitchell, the Infrastructure Team manager for Slumberland.
