Healthcare Companies Find an Efficient Way to Keep up with Growing Data Storage Needs
Compellent Fluid Data Enterprise Storage Reduces Costs for Healthcare Providers
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Feb. 23, 2010 – Healthcare organizations are turning to virtualized storage solutions for a cost-effective way to securely store and intelligently manage patient data without costly downtime, Compellent said today. Two healthcare providers, Graves-Gilbert Clinic and Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Michigan, are using Compellent’s Fluid Data storage products to dramatically reduce their storage costs, administration time and risk, backed by a support team recognized for delivering superior service.
“For the healthcare industry, having the most up-to-date patient information is critical for top-notch patient care,” said Matt Durkin, director of healthcare business development at Compellent. “We help our customers build fully virtualized storage infrastructures that make data readily accessible for the caregivers and easy to manage for the IT staff from installation to operation and future expansion, all with the best technical support team in the industry.”
Graves-Gilbert Clinic, a multispecialty clinic in Bowling Green, Ky., chose Fluid Data storage from Compellent to intelligently manage its data, increase capacity and avoid rip-and-replace upgrades as its storage needs grew. Graves-Gilbert IT utilized automated tiered storage with Fast Track and automatically moved 85 percent of the least active data to less expensive drives, saving an estimated $500,000 on storage costs. The clinic leveraged Compellent’s efficiencies to build a robust disaster recovery strategy that cut data recovery time from days to minutes.
“Compellent’s Fluid Data architecture saves us time and money by moving infrequently accessed data to cheaper disks,” said Barry Thomas, system engineer at Graves-Gilbert Clinic. “The system proved itself when we had an installation failure while updating one of our most critical applications and what could have taken a long time to recover from tape, took us seconds to do with the Compellent system. Compellent has given us the availability that we need to offer 24/7 access to records, diagnostic images and lab information.”
Similarly to Graves-Gilbert Clinic, Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Michigan (VNA), the largest independent nonprofit home care and hospice provider for metropolitan Detroit area residents, needed a flexible and scalable storage solution that offered exceptional technical support to complement its small IT staff. Compellent’s Fluid Data storage and open hardware architecture works well with VNA’s VMware virtualized server environment and allows the organization to quickly adapt to data growth and changing requirements.
“Compellent Copilot Services have taken away a lot of stress, sleepless nights and working weekends,” said Greg Brunson, database administrator for VNA. “Not only do we have great technical support, we have a flexible system that keeps our information secure and highly available, helping our professional visiting staff improve the quality of care for each one of our patients.”
