Leading Microsoft ISV Selects Compellent SAN to Speed Software Development and Testing
Continuous Snapshots and Advanced Boot from SAN Capabilities Deliver 25 Percent Increase in Per-Person Productivity and 300 Percent Performance Boost
Minneapolis, Aug. 16, 2006 — Compellent Technologies, a provider of affordable and modular enterprise storage solutions, today announced Axonom, a leading Microsoft independent software vendor (ISV), has selected Compellent’s Storage Center™ storage area network (SAN) to serve as the storage platform for a high-performance software development and testing environment.
Prior to installing Compellent’s Storage Center, Axonom had two full time IT administrators whose sole responsibility was to continually rebuild and pressure-test servers under various software application and operating system combinations. Storage Center has allowed Axonom to focus on its core business of software development and testing instead of on rebuilding servers and managing storage.
“Compellent’s Storage Center is a secret weapon that has enabled us to increase the productivity of our development group by 25 percent—a key competitive advantage in the ISV space,” said Clark Dircz, Axonom chief executive officer. “The new SAN and productivity boost has allowed us to dramatically increase the speed of bringing products to market. Not only are we able to test combinations we couldn’t test before, but certain processes such as compiling and database operations run 200 to 300 percent faster, further increasing our productivity.”
A combination of Storage Center’s Data Instant Replay and Boot from SAN technology provides the foundation for Axonom’s productivity gains.
With Data Instant Replay, Axonom’s developers can revert back to a clean or original volume within 10 seconds using an intuitive point-and-click interface. This is an extremely valuable tool in their environment where data is continually destroyed or corrupted by the testing systems. Data Instant Replay allows developers access to an unlimited number of snapshots, called Replays, so they can easily roll back and forth between points in time, identifying interoperability problems, applying software patches and debugging software code without requiring individual engineers to re-boot, re-set or rebuild their test servers.
Storage Center’s Boot from SAN technology allows Axonom developers to reboot their test servers from a centralized boot image stored on the SAN. Software testers can easily isolate operating systems from applications and no longer have to pull out DVDs to rebuild the OS. Boot from SAN technology has also enabled Axonom to save significantly on server hardware costs and reduce power and A/C requirements for their test lab.
