Compellent’s Storage Center Supports Xyratex’s Fibre Channel SBOD Enclosures
Minneapolis, Oct. 10, 2005 — Compellent Technologies, a provider of modular, affordable storage solutions distributed exclusively through a select international network of business partners, today announced the availability of Fibre Channel SBOD enclosures for its storage area network (SAN) solution, providing the ability for customers to scale capacity, availability and performance to enterprise levels without sacrificing their existing investment. Xyratex, a leading provider of enterprise-class data storage subsystems and network technology, is the original equipment manufacturer for the SBOD.
The Xyratex SBOD (Switched Bunch of Disks) effectively embeds a switch within each enclosure, reducing overhead and improving performance by increasing the number of enclosures that can be consecutively linked to scale capacity and reliability. Additionally, with this new switched fabric enclosure, Storage Center users will benefit from enhanced drive-level fault detection, isolation and diagnosis.

Compellent’s open-systems hardware architecture enables the use of any type of enclosure – Fibre Channel or SATA, switched or non-switched – delivering unlimited expansion and long-term investment protection. Storage Center currently supports SBOD enclosures with Fibre Channel drives and JBOD enclosures with either Fibre Channel or SATA disk drives. Other systems restrict overall capacity or are limited to a single enclosure or drive interface technology.
